In a Media Release on 15 October 2013 Geelong Regional Alliance (G21) CEO Elaine Carbines commended the G21 Month of Action (25 Oct – 25 Nov) as an opportunity for individuals, groups and organisations to think seriously about what we can do to stamp out violence against women.
Research shows that across Australia up to 57% of women have experienced sexual or physical violence perpetrated by a man in their lifetime. Intimate partner violence is the largest contributor to death, disease and disability for women aged 15 – 44 according Vic Health figures
The Month of Action began with the Reclaim the Night – Geelong’s WOW Fest, a women’s night on 25 October. It concludes with White Ribbon Day on 25 November, which is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
“Signing the G21 Accord also sends a strong message that you’ll not tolerate violence against women in our community. The more people who sign it, the stronger the message,” Ms Carbines said.
